HyBoost demonstrator debuts at LCV2011; 50% by swept volume downsizing with low-cost electrification

Green Car Congress

The project deliberately focused upon technologies and systems that are already on the market or are capable of practical production implementation in the near term. The HyBoost concept is based on a 2009 Ford Focus in which a 2.0L Earlier post.). naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine has been replaced with a 1.0L

CPT presenting two papers at SAE World Congress on SpeedStart and TIGERS for 48V mild hybrid systems

Green Car Congress

ADEPT combines the two technologies, which have been demonstrated individually but not yet as an integrated system, applying the low voltage concept of ‘intelligent electrification’ for the first time to a diesel car. SR machines are ideally suited to this concept of low cost development, while reducing the cost of production components.

ADEPT project to apply gasoline engine HyBoost system to diesel; 48V architecture; full hybrid fuel economy at much lower cost

Green Car Congress

The Ricardo-led Advanced Diesel Electric Powertrain (ADEPT) project will apply 48V “intelligent electrification” concepts, mild hybridization and waste heat recovery in a Ford Focus diesel demonstrator. It is capable of operating in exhaust temperatures up to 850 °C, at speeds up to 60,000 rpm and delivering a peak power of 2 kW (@12V).

CPT developing 48-volt electric supercharger for micro-mild hybrids

Green Car Congress

At 48 volts, a VTES electric supercharger will transform 7kW of battery power into a highly boosted charge of air for downsized gasoline and diesel engines. The torque response of these future VTES equipped vehicles will be equivalent to the best mass market vehicles on the road today. —Guy Morris.

New Federal-Mogul Powertrain high thermal conductivity seats and guides keep engine valves cooler; improved combustion, lower emissions

Green Car Congress

The extreme valve temperatures experienced on today’s highly boosted downsized engines can lead to reduced valve fatigue life and critical valve guide and stem seal temperatures, resulting in the need for expensive valve steel alloys. —Gian Maria Olivetti, Chief Technology Officer, Federal-Mogul Powertrain.

Advanced Turbocharged, Direct Injected Gasoline Engines Poised to Take on Diesels in US and in Europe for Reduced Fuel Consumption and Emissions

Green Car Congress

Additionally, suggested one of the speakers, advanced SIDI (spark-ignited, direct-injection) engines can take light-duty market share back from diesels in Europe based on the same trends. don’t think we expect to see a large market share of light duty diesel in the short term.
