Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Co Ltd (JAC) and Ricardo are collaborating on a project to develop the Ricardo HyBoost concept ( earlier post )—a combination of low-cost technologies to deliver improved performance and fuel economy which featured recently in the Ricardo Centenary celebrations —into volume production on a JAC vehicle.

The ADEPT project is led by Ricardo in a research partnership including the Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium (ALABC); Controlled Power Technologies (CPT); Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies UK Ltd; Ford Motor Company and the University of Nottingham. The final results will be presented at the UK’s LCV2016 event on 14-15 September.

Automotive supplier KSPG Automotive (formerly Kolbenschmidt Pierburg), a subsidiary of Rheinmetall AG, and FEV have jointly developed a concept for a compact, 30 kW range extender for battery-electric vehicles. Except for the fuel tank and the radiator, all components, including the power electronics, are mounted on a support frame.

The Ricardo-led Advanced Diesel Electric Powertrain (ADEPT) project will apply 48V “intelligent electrification” concepts, mild hybridization and waste heat recovery in a Ford Focus diesel demonstrator. It is capable of operating in exhaust temperatures up to 850 °C, at speeds up to 60,000 rpm and delivering a peak power of 2 kW (@12V).
