I contributed the following to the World Wildlife Climate Witness site last week and it was published this morning. So not only is climate change-driven drought cutting our fresh water supply, but the way we use water here also adds to our greenhouse gas emissions. That’s about a 25% reduction.

The quickest and most effective way to make that happen today is to green the current grid, house-by-house, by installing rooftop solar energy systems that feed clean, renewable power into the grid the second they’re switched on. We cannot afford to wait for them and we don’t have to. I’m ready to start right now.

As our climate change crisis worsens and spins out of control with each passing day there’s no time to spare for those of us whose job it is to educate and motivate our fellow citizens to actions that cut our greenhouse gas emissions. If Los Angeles County were a nation, its economy would be the 18th largest in the world.

Electric cars and a smart electric grid have a bright future, according to panelists at a roundtable discussion on the subject that I attended last Friday in Boston. “I Vehicle-to-grid is, I believe, the salvation of the automotive industry in the United States,” declared Marc Spitzer, an agency commissioner who was also on the panel.
