Volkswagen Group Logistics will be using certified fuel from vegetable residues for certain new car shipments via marine routes. With 85 percent lower CO 2 emissions than with conventional fossil fuels, the contribution to climate protection is enormous. We are the first automaker to make widespread use of this fuel.

Only unavoidable emissions are offset by climate protection measures. Exclusive long-term agreements have been signed with shipowners Wallenius Marine and SFL Corporation for the use of the four new car carriers on the North Atlantic route. This has resulted in an 85% reduction in CO 2 emissions (well-to-wake).

Even though we are in unprecedented times, due to the ongoing pandemic, we have to make sure that climate protection and sustainability efforts remain at the forefront. At no extra cost to the customer, the heavy oil that would ordinarily be used is replaced with sustainable marine biofuel onboard a preselected container vessel.
