EIA releases report on CO2 emissions by state; California led in 2010 with transportation-sector emissions

Green Car Congress

Energy-related CO 2 emissions buy state, 2010. The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released a new report, State-Level Energy-Related Carbon Dioxide Emissions, 2000-2010. The report shows a significant variation of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions across states on both an absolute and a per capita basis.

Study finds rising temperatures increase risk of unhealthy ozone levels absent sharp cuts in precursors

Green Car Congress

The study shows that Americans face the risk of a 70% increase in unhealthy summertime ozone levels by 2050, assuming continued greenhouse gas emissions with resultant significant warming (IPCC Scenario A2 and RCP (Representative Concentration Pathway) 8.5.). In the other, emissions would be cut by 60-70%. Scenario A2 and RCP 8.5.

Converting Oil Shale to Gasoline via Alberta Taciuk Processor Results in Full Fuel Cycle GHG Emissions 1.5-1.75 Larger Than From Conventionally Produced Gasoline

Green Car Congress

GHG emissions for ATP shale (low and high cases) and conventional gasoline in grams of CO 2 e per MJ of final fuel delivered. These emissions are 1.5 times larger than emissions from conventionally produced gasoline. Full-fuel-cycle GHG emissions are estimated to be 129 g CO 2. Credit: ACS. Click to enlarge. These are ~1.5-1.75

Study finds global rivers and streams emitting 3x IPCC estimates of the GHG N2O

Green Car Congress

Scientists report in an open access paper this week in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) that river and stream networks are the source of at least 10% of human-caused nitrous oxide emissions to the atmosphere. This new global emission estimate is startling. Beaulieu et al. PNAS doi: 10.1073/pnas.1011464108.

ICCT study finds state EV incentives playing a significant role in driving sales

Green Car Congress

A stepwise regression analysis shows that the most effective incentives are subsidies; carpool lane access; and emissions testing exemptions initiatives. On the other hand, Mississippi, Oklahoma, North Dakota, and Wyoming are examples of states offering nearly no benefits to electric vehicle owners, and have nearly no EV sales.

What is Electrification of Transportation?

Driivz

The primary goal is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and, ultimately, contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change on the planet. What is the potential for reducing emissions? Globally, the transportation sector contributes about 25% of all CO2 emissions. Clean electricity makes a difference.
