By way of trans-Atlantic comparison, 95 g/km is equivalent to 152 g/mile; the current US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) greenhouse gas emissions standard (part of the joint national standard with NHSTA) calls for 250 g/mile in MY 2016. The proposed 2025 US standard would bring that down to 163 g/mile in MY 2025.

The new Secretary of State for Transport Lord Adonis and Transport Minister Sadiq Khan have both endorsed fuel efficiency extravaganza, the 2009 ALD Automotive/TOTAL ECO 10 MPG Marathon in Coventry on September 30 and 1st October. The event, which is supported by Act on CO2 and the Energy Saving Trust, will take place over two days.

In recent testimony before the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood said that substantive reductions in carbon emissions from transportation will require policies and programs that reduce vehicle miles traveled (VMT).
