Medium-sized battery-electric cars are on average 14% cheaper to run than equivalent diesels today, if slow charging overnight near home and/or fast charging at preferential rates are available. Charging is a key barrier for the uptake of EVs by professional drivers.

It’s of course way too early to tell what the acceptance is going to be and I think anybody who would try to give you projection in terms of 10 years, x percent of our fleet is going to be electric, I think they’d all be just throwing darts. The potential impacts of PEVs on climate change are of particular concern.

Today’s EVs can travel farther on a single charge and manufacturers are working hard even more efficient new models. They’re also working with Sony on a jointly designed model that will show up soon.
