The hybrid conversions took place in Charlotte, North Carolina over the last six months and were developed with Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and Eaton Corporation. These standard trucks used in the retrofit programme were models from 2000 or 2001 with 300,000-500,000 miles on the clock.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.

That’s progressive-corporate speak for charging vehicles when the demand for electricity is lower to ensure less energy is wasted. But we’ve seen some underhanded corporate shenanigans and a lack of support for these kinds of services in the past. & There are certainly some good ideas here. .&
