The lab has since adapted the process to convert plastic waste into graphene and to extract precious metals from electronic waste. The project will build and install diesel-fueled two-stroke compression-ignition Achates Power Opposed-Piston Engines into Class 8 demonstration trucks that will be road-road ready in 2019 and operate in fleet service in California in 2020. This program will demonstrate the first diesel engine to comply with the state standard.

So far, the agave material has gone through all of the necessary screening tests (chemical, physical, and odor) to help Ford engineers determine the appropriate applications for the material. Ford most recently introduced REPREVE in F-150. Rice hulls are used to reinforce plastic in Ford F-150 electrical harness.
