I love several things about the Volt that tipped my decision to buy out the lease and keep on driving—mostly on electricity: The Lectron charger has style and speed. Electric-only range of the Volt has not only not diminished , but I’m regularly see 60-mile estimated ranges after a charge. The car has been nearly flawless.

Last week, as part of the little known and unadvertised “Bolt Buyback” program GM quietly created in response to the recall of all their 2017- 2019 Bolts, Chevy paid $37,900 to buy this car back from us. The standard version with only 220 miles of range was a long way off for someone who wanted his own electric car to start 2017.

In fact, these days, they’re more commonly found zipping through neighborhood streets or joy-riding around beach communities. Buying used can help lower costs, but there are also interesting new additions to the market such as the Kandi Mini golf cart, priced at just US $3,999. Rising fuel-economy standards during the 2020s will do the same.
