Under this cost-shared research and development (R&D), DOE is awarding $51 million to nine new projects for coal and natural gas power and industrial sources. Converting captured CO 2 into products such as chemicals, carbonates, plastics, fuels, building materials, and other commodities is an important aspect of carbon capture and storage technology, the DOE said. Hawaii Electric Company will qualify the biocrude for boiler use, and Tesoro will supply CO 2 and evaluate fuel products.
