Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha have just collectively promised to develop a slew of hydrogen-reliant engines designed to power small vehicles. At the time, Honda had already released the Clarity to consumers, and it would be followed by Toyota’s Mirai. But it hasn’t been steady progress.

The goal is to build a hydrogen refueling network that can be rolled out quickly, and built up over time as fuel cell trucks become more common. As of now, the refueling station is… basically just an asphalt-and-gravel lot, with a building for 24/7 support on-site, across the street from the Ontario Airport. But that’s some ways off.

The catch here is, that being able to produce enough clean hydrogen (hydrogen is highly reactive and is not available in pure form in the natural state) to be used as a fuel in a sustainable manner is not impossible but hard and expensive. Hydrogen as Clean Energy. The oxygen comes from the air, while the hydrogen comes from a tank.

Honda have produced the Honda FCX Clarity FCEV, a hydrogen powered Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), which they are leasing in limited numbers to selected customers in specially selected locations only. There are several reasons for this approach and understanding a little more about fuel cell vehicles may explain why.

Still totally cool to see automakers can agree about stuff (much better than computer makers, indeed), but I always find it weird when people say electrical cars are clean.

Chrysler isnt the first to realize that building an EV off of a Lotus platform makes for an incredibly fast and fun experience (see also: Tesla Roadster ) We escaped from the dark confines of Cobo Hall onto a decently sunny day and cruised along the river and past the Ren Cen, gunning the Circuit whenever possible.
