Nestlé Waters North America has installed 32 Plug Power GenDrive hydrogen fuel cells, purchased in 2008, in its materials-handling fleet at their Dallas, Texas bottling facility. Nestlé Waters evaluated both hydrogen fuel cells and lead-acid batteries as potential replacements for the LPG-fueled systems.

Bio2Electric’s project will demonstrate a novel conversion process to produce ethylene (a widely used commodity chemical) from natural gas, with the goal of reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower reactor capital and lower operating expense compared to current industry practice. But in either case the computer must always be running, which means it will eventually drain the battery.

T his week's meeting of the Electric Drive Transportation Association in Washington was accompanied by some significant announcements. Plug-in vehicles would combine today’s new electric-flex fuel (gas and/or biofuels such as ethanol) hybrid technology with a larger battery that could be recharged by plugging it into a standard wall sockets.
