Opel and Europcar have agreed to introduce the Opel Ampera extended range electric vehicle ( earlier post ) as a rental car throughout Europe. In addition, customers will receive advice on energy-efficient driving in battery operation and how to recuperate energy when braking. Europcar provides electric and hybrid vehicles.

The Velozzi Supercar will be powered by a 770 hp (574 kW) AC-induction electric motor charged by an on-board Capstone C65 microturbine. The SOLO will be a lightweight electric crossover with an on-board 30 kW Capstone microturbine that will charge the crossover’s batteries and super capacitors while in operation or at rest.

Starting this year, thousands of battery-powered electric drive Volkswagen vehicles capable of both loading and offloading current—bidirectional charging, as industry calls it—have been rolling off production lines in eastern Germany. A side benefit could be plugging in appliances to the car while camping rough.

The company also held the European premiere of the Cadillac SRX. The Ampera is an extended range electric vehicle based on the Voltec technology used in the Chevrolet Volt. Equipped with a 16 kWh Li-ion battery pack, the five-door, four-seat hatchback has a battery-powered range of up to 60 km (37 miles) (MVEG cycle).
