Hyundai unveiled the redesigned 2018 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models at the Chicago Auto Show. Although the powertrains remain the same, the new Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid feature a comprehensive exterior and interior redesign, safety, suspension and new and improved infotainment and connectivity features.

The governors of 8 states—California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont—have signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) to take specific actions to put 3.3 US electric car sales in 2012 more than tripled to about 52,000 from 17,000 in 2011.

They found that hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles (especially electric cars) easily saved their owners money when looking at the purchase price, fuel costs and regular maintenance. The motors that electric vehicles use have fewer moving parts than their gasoline-powered counterparts and don’t require oil changes.

Having enough electric charge to last a 5-15 minute in silence in a traffic jam. Power steering is electric and as a result we don’t need to check the power steering oil level as there isn’t any. During reversing, the Prius is powered only by the electric motor. The gasoline engine only runs in reversing to power the batteries.

Europe has gasoline taxes over $4 per gallon and still finds the need to adopt aggressive performance standards for cars to reduce GHGs and oil use. The intent was to accelerate the commercialization of electric (and other advanced) technology, but batteries and fuel cells did not advance as fast as regulators hoped.
