Kia Motors Corporation premiered the hybrid version of its new Optima sedan ( earlier post ) at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The electric motor switches into hybrid operation and serves as both a secondary engine (during full acceleration and hill-climbing) and a generator to recharge the battery pack as necessary.

The Chevrolet Volt isn’t the only range extended car on its way – now Capstone Turbine Corporation will introduce its own prototype at the LA Auto Show. The prototype is based on a Factory Five Racing GTM body and can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.9 It has a top speed of 150mph.
