Yet when gas prices tumbled later that year, plans for the Prius plant were shelved. Or should Americans be allowed to buy the vehicles they want irrespective of environmental damage or a lack of resources?

The Chevrolet Volt may have been branded too expensive to be commercially successful by the Obama administration’s taskforce, but its supporters are having none of it. However, advocacy groups have hit back branding the task force’s assessment as short-sighted.

Clearly the goal of the cash for clunkers scheme was to revitalise US auto sales – but the underlying target, according to the Obama administration, was also to encourage US drivers towards more fuel efficient vehicles that would ultimately reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil. So is this scheme green at all?

Electric car supporters are rising to defend General Motors’ development of the Chevy Volt after the Obama Administration’s automotive task force proclaimed that the car was probably too expensive to be commercially successful in the near future. BYD’s conventional gas-powered cars are selling well these days in China, and his electric plug-in electric model looks like it will come to market with a longer range and a lower sticker price than the new Toyota Prius much-hyped Chevy Volt. Much as I admire the Obama administration’s energy and environment team, there’s no way that the U.S.

The Obama Administration doesnt understand that. " President Obamas auto task force doesnt see it that way. But GM says it wont get the money until the Obama administration is satisfied the company is financially viable.
