While BEVs were a hot item last month, jumping 81%, to a record 407.000 units, PHEVs were even hooter, shooting 205% in December, allowing them to end the year with 31% of plugin sales, up 5% from the 26% of 2019, giving credit to those that say that PHEVs will still be around for a while. With plugin registrations going up 133%, the highest monthly growth rate in over 8 years, with both technologies running hot, with BEVs jumping 125%, to 289.000 units, while PHEVs jumped 155%, to a 125.000 units. The BEV/PHEV breakdown stayed more or less the same, with the current standing at 68% BEV, 32% PHEV.

Chinese state-owned automaker Chery is reportedly still looking to the United States as a possible point of expansion. Chery's global brands include Chery, Exeed, Omoda, and Jetour, the latter two destined for international markets. Exeed is a luxury brand that intends to compete with Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.

A new electric pickup is coming to global markets. Designed by ex-Lamborghini and Audi designer Wolfgang Egger, the truck resembles the Ford F-150 Lightning or Toyota Hilux with four doors, rugged fenders, and a big “BYD ” logo on the front grille. BYD’s Shark electric pickup will meet the growing demand in China and global markets.
