All-Electric Chinese E6 Fleet

BYD, a company struggling to sell its e6 electric crossover in its home market, has decided it won''t be sold at all to private customers in the U.S. Instead, says the ChinaEV blog, the e6 will be a fleet-only vehicle in the U.S, as the company instead concentrates on its electric bus sales in North America.

The city of London, England is set to have its first all-electric taxi fleet from the second quarter of 2013. Taxi company greentomatocars and Chinese carmaker BYD have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see greentomato cars running a fleet of 50 BYD e6 electric crossovers.

In tandem with the handsome growth of the e-two-wheeler and e-three-wheeler segment, the electric passenger vehicle segment, which comprises cars, SUV and MPVs, has also registered record retail sales. Mahindra & Mahindra , with 6,043 units, is in third position and has a 7% EV market share with its all-electric XUV400.

London could soon see the arrival of its first all-electric taxi fleet after one of the capital’s minicab services sealed a deal with Chinese EV manufacturer BYD.

Chinese EV maker BYD, which launched its third product – the BYD Seal EV sedan – in India on March 5, plans to enhance its market coverage from the existing 65 percent to over 90 percent in the coming years. We are currently present in all the metros as well as other key cities such as Jaipur, Calicut, Surat, among others.

Automaker BYD is by far China's most aggressive when it comes to electric cars. It launched its F3DM sedan, the world's first production plug-in hybrid, back in December 2008--sales have been poor--and has been testing its all-electric e6 crossover with both taxi fleets in Shenzhen, China, and the Housing Authority of Los Angeles.
