The taxi and ride-hailing markets are best positioned to go fully electric first. The economics of EVs—more expensive to buy but a lot cheaper to run—match perfectly with high-mileage, low-margin businesses like ride-hailing and taxis. Uber-type drivers can do up to five times more kilometers than an average motorist.

All other powertrains lost volume YoY, with petrol-only vehicles at their 2nd lowest volume of the modern era (just 112 units), and 3rd lowest share ever, just 1.25% of the auto market. In my view, the remaining few percent will still depend on new BEVs in the affordable sub-compact class (BYD Seagull anyone?), to 7,471 units.

The accumulation of these EV tax breaks, plus the hefty 25% tax on fossil-fuel cars, means that EV models in Norway are often more affordable than fossil-fuel cars, even without the EV subsidies that are available in other countries. By 2023, all taxis are set to be emission-free and the wireless system will help support this goal.

Can I afford an electric vehicle? Which was the last petrol / fossil fuel car you owned? The last petrol car I owned was the Mazda 3. If you went and purchased a mini electric and compared it to a petrol mini, the only real difference is that it has no engine. Is Tesla the answer? I mean it has a built-in games console!
