California’s latest greenhouse gas data shows that while the state continues to stay below its 2020 target for emissions, there is much more work to do to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. Total statewide 2018 GHG emissions were 425.3 million metric tons between 2017 and 2018, the first such decline since 2013.

HFC-23 is a very potent greenhouse gas, with one tonne of its emissions being equivalent to the release of more than 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Now, an international team of researchers have shown, in an open-access paper published in the journal Nature Communications , that concentrations were increasing at an all-time record by 2018.
