Pike Research projects alternative fuel buses to represent 50% of total transit bus deliveries by 2015

According to a recent report from Pike Research, the current trend toward cleaner transit buses will continue over the next several years, with alternative fuel vehicles representing more than 50% of the 64,000 total transit buses that will be delivered worldwide during 2015, up from 28% of total bus deliveries in 2010.

Mack to begin production of DME-powered vehicles in 2015

Mack Trucks, part of the Volvo Group, will begin production of dimethyl ether (DME)-powered MACK Pinnacle Axle Back models in 2015. Volvo Trucks had announced earlier this month that it would commercialize dimethyl ether (DME)-powered heavy-duty commercial vehicles in North America, with limited production beginning in 2015.

State of South Carolina purchases 26 Blue Bird Vision Propane school buses

The state of South Carolina has purchased 26 new Blue Bird Vision Propane school buses to replace aging diesel buses. The first of the alternative-fueled buses are being deployed to service Dorchester and Berkeley counties. The buses were purchased from Blue Bird’s newest dealership in North America, Blanchard Bus Centers.

Volvo Trucks approves 100% renewable diesel for all Euro 5 engines, prepping certification for Euro 6

After extensive field testing of renewable diesel HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils), Volvo Trucks has approved the fuel for all Euro 5 engines and is preparing certifications for Euro 6 engines. HVO (such as Neste’s NEXBTL) is produced from renewable raw materials such as vegetable and animal fats and acts as regular diesel.
