At the opening of Auto Guangzhou 2012, Shanghai General Motors launched its first localized new energy vehicle, the Sail SPRINGO EV. The top speed is 130 km/h (81 mph). The AEGT all-electric GT racing car designed, built and tested in extreme conditions by Quimera, with technical supervision by Altran, features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, and a powertrain delivering up to 700 bhp (522 kW). Top speed is 300 km/h (186 mph), with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds.

Audi is presenting the Audi A6 L e-tron concept at Auto China 2012 in Beijing. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery is located in a collision-protected space at the rear of the vehicle. Audi has already launched electrified drive systems in volume production with full hybrid models with lithium-ion battery technology.

The i3 and i8 will become the first purpose-built electric and hybrid-electric production vehicles to be made primarily from carbon fiber when they come to market in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
