Toyota has released more detail on the powertrain of the new Lexus CT 200h premium compact dedicated hybrid ( earlier post ); Toyota plans to introduce it to the US market in early 2011. The parking lock is automatically deactivated when driving off, and automatically re-engages when the car is switched off.

Battery electric vehicles are a great technology but like the fax machine they are only temporary and there is a great deal of consumer resistance towards them for all manner of reasons, including range and the time it takes to recharge them. So as well as producing a clean fuel we would be reducing the amount of waste we put into landfill.
