The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) will recruit 500 people from Wright and Hennepin counties to take part in research to test technology that could someday be used to collect a mileage-based user fee (MBUF) in lieu of a gasoline tax. These funding sources support construction and maintenance of the highway system.

A new study from the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs finds that reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation will be a much bigger challenge than many assume, and will require substantially higher fuel prices combined with more stringent regulations. —Morrow et al.

Gasoline may cost between $3-$5 while you own this vehicle. Both Edwards and Miller believe that for the foreseeable future hybrid powertrains will not dramatically increase their market share until fuel prices remain high for an extended period of time. It is not quite as reliable, its not as powerful and it is not as fun to drive.
