Most small, 2 wheel drive SUVs from MY 1975-2011 have been reclassified from trucks to cars; this lowers the absolute truck share, particularly since the mid-1980s when SUV sales began to increase rapidly. And so it proved as the subsidy programme helped Ford to its first increase in US vehicles sales since 2007 after it sold 158,838 vehicles in July – a two per cent increase compared to the previous year (see article ). Indeed six of the top 10 trade-ins are SUVs with two mini-vans and two pick-up trucks rounding out the list.
