Electrify America and Walmart announced that more than 120 plus ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are now operational and open to the public at Walmart stores across the US. Electrify America chargers at Walmart stores feature 150 kilowatt (kW) and 350kW DC Fast Chargers.

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and Southwest Research Institute are collaborating to improve storage materials for hydrogen fuels with a hybrid metal-carbon microstructure that combines both chemical and physical hydrogen storage mechanisms. This process uses less energy than it takes to power an incandescent light bulb.

Mercedes asserts that every one of its chargers offers up to 400 kW of power. Mercedes is aiming to have around 30 online by the end of the year.

Nuvera Fuel Cells has sold 14 PowerEdge fuel cell systems, along with a complete PowerTap Hydrogen Generator and Hydrogen Station, to H-E-B in San Antonio, Texas. The fuel cell units will power Class II forklift trucks used for the company’s distribution center operations. Delivery is scheduled for September, 2009.

The newly formed Scuderi Split-Cycle (SSC) Engine Consortium is having its first meeting at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, Texas on 23 January. Intake air is compressed in the compression cylinder and transferred via a gas passage to the power cylinder for combustion.
