Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin leasing approximately 200 plug-in versions of its third-generation Prius ( earlier post ) equipped with lithium-ion battery packs in Japan starting at the end of this year. TMC is also considering introducing plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

The plug-in version of the third-generation Toyota Prius will be open to leasing at the end of this year in Japan. It brings the initial planned global deployment of early plug-ins to fleet customers to around 500 units. Action plans will be developed over the summer.

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) will lease more than 150 units of its experimental Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV) to selected fleet customers across Europe as a next step towards commercialization. France will be the first country to participate in the three-year European pilot, with discussions ongoing in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
