Zipcar was the first car-sharing company in the United States to introduce electric vehicles, starting in Boston in 2002, and the first to offer hybrid vehicles through a partnership with Honda in Seattle in 2003. Honda’s 2014 Fit EV, based on the popular five-passenger Fit, is rated at a combined fuel economy of 118 MPGe.

Buses equipped with HybriDrive series have travelled more than 300 million miles, prevented more than 280,000 tons of CO 2 emissions and have saved more than 25 million gallons of diesel fuel. Seattle and Houston are taking delivery of HybriDrive-powered buses built by Daimler as will Baltimore City, Md., Atlanta, Ga.

In larger metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, Atlanta, or Seattle, where EVs are in high demand, prices are higher but have more inventory available than in suburban or rural areas.

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels announced that the City of Seattle and Nissan North America will work together to promote the development of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. Nissan has selected the Seattle-area as one of the first regions in the country to introduce a pure electric five-passenger hatchback in 2010.
