Green car hire firm, greentomatocars will take delivery of the very first third generation Toyota Prius in London today and to celebrate the firm is offering free passage to customers. On Friday 14 August, any lucky customer that travels in the new Prius won’t have to pay for their journey.

Move over Toyota Prius - there’s a new green car leader in town. Since going on sale in the UK, 229 Insight models have been sold ahead of its nearest rival the Toyota Prius at 198 units. Honda Insight customers also have the benefit of high residual values of 44 per cent as well as exemption from the London Congestion Charge.

A scheme that involves the public dipping into their pockets every day is rarely greeted with enthusiasm, but the success of the London Congestion Charge has silenced most of its critics. Currently, only alternative fuel vehicles are exempt from the London Congestion Charge. Is the congestion charge unfair?

In London we have congestion charge, plus a customer dense network. Marjan announces that the car purchase tax (BPM) relief, granted only until 2012, will be extended. And then, more toned down: at least arrange for lease car tax reduction for EVs and make EV parking free. All initiatives help, Marjan stresses.
