The US Energy Department’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is working with Ecopetrol, the largest oil company in Colombia, to process the residue from sugar cane and palm oil harvesting into fuel ethanol for blending with gasoline. The plant spoils quickly if the sugars aren’t squeezed out.

The LCFS requires oil producers, importers and other fuel providers gradually to reduce, on a full-fuel lifecycle basis, the carbon intensity (CI) of their transportation fuel mix (measured in gCO 2 e/MJ) by from 0.25% in 2011 to 10% by 2020. The Volt is, and always has been, more than than an electric car. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. GM killed that car because of back room deals with oil companies, and now they expect us to believe that they are just so cutting edge now? Thats short-sighted.
