In the future, utilities will pay you to plug-in your vehicle. For the future, Renault is working on development of exchangeable batteries for continuous mobility. Also, besides giving you the ability to charge at night when most utility rates are lower, future vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology may allow you to sell some of your stored energy back to the utilities. "The Volt continues to be one of our highest priorities among all GMs future product programs and remains on track for a November 2010 launch," spokesman David Darovitz told Automotive News. Volt like hybrids are the intermediate future between hydrogen or fast charging electric cars. So I think its a safe bet for GM.
