Capstone Turbine Corporation successfully completed track testing of a Kenworth Class 7 hybrid electric work truck using its 65kW microturbine as an on-board range extender. Kenworth has been awarded three government grants totaling $8.6 million that will support low emissions projects involving Kenworth T680 Day Cabs targeted for use as drayage tractors in Southern California ports. The second T680 Day Cab will feature a hydrogen fuel cell offering true zero-emissions operation.

It operates as a hybrid in either series or parallel configuration modes. In a series hybrid, the electric motor is the only means of providing power to the wheels.
