Toyota was earlier granted a Zero Emission Powertrain (ZEP) Executive Order (A-014-1170) from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for its new heavy-duty fuel cell electric powertrain kit. The hydrogen-fueled powertrain kit includes a 200 kWh Li-ion battery; hydrogen fuel storage tanks (58.8 Earlier post.)

kWh NiMH plug-in hybrid (PHEV) conversion kit that enables all-electric mode driving at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (until the battery pack is depleted) in a converted Prius. Some previous Prius plug-in conversion kits allowed motorists to go as fast as 52 miles per hour using a “forced stealth” mode.

We found only four for sale, with $28,880 for a 190km range 2014 60Ah version with 100,000km the cheapest. The range extender hybrid i3s are basically the same price. It has the aero wheel cap kit and backup key card, sweetening the deal. A 2017 94Ah i3 with 300km range and 50,000km on the clock for $37,900 looks the better buy.

If that’s your theory then you may have to re-evaluate after Ponway, California-based Plug-In Conversions Corp (PICC) completed a software upgrade conversion kit that enables all-electric mode driving at up to 70mph in a converted Prius. The software upgrade will retail for $2,000-$2,500 and be made available for sale later this month.
