In an electric vehicle, no gasoline is used. In a hybrid, you have a combination of both electric power and gasoline. Some hybrid cars can be charged; those will run on electricity for a short while, then it will switch to gasoline. Electric vehicles also allow you to save money since you will not have to purchase gasoline.

While Volvo offers a T5 turbocharged model and T6 turbocharged and supercharged model of the gasoline-only XC90, it’s the T8 that’s the focus here. Fuel economy for the Recharge is 55 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) when you use electricity and gasoline and drops to 27 mpg when you don’t charge up the battery.

Since it was not a Level 2 charger, I knew it would not gain much juice overnight. On the last day I knew I would have to get a full charge to make it back to Heathrow and leave it with enough juice for the driver who would collect it. I duly plugged it into an exterior household outlet.
