The first results will be seen later in 2009, when Saft’s US manufacturing facility in Valdosta, GA begins production of a new generation of asymmetric nickel supercapacitors that will work in combination with batteries on heavy vehicles in a large variety of markets including, but not limited to, industry or public transportation.

While battery life span varies by manufacturer and age, in general you can expect new batteries to rival and often exceed the longevity of drivetrain components on internal combustion engine (ICE) Vehicles. In general, storing and operating your EV in moderate climates is an effective way to extend battery life.

This commitment is founded on the underlying principle that electric vehicles – unlike all other technologies (internal combustion engines, hybrids) – are zero-emission vehicles during their use on the road. That said, electric vehicles generally tend to emit less greenhouse gases than equivalent internal combustion-engined vehicles.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. I blame management but it is sad that the engineers and union workers are going to get hurt too. Engineering proptypes enjoy a tax break.
