Solar Impulse, the solar-powered electric aircraft attempting to fly around the world, will be grounded in Hawaii until early spring 2016 due to damage to the batteries which overheated in the record-breaking oceanic flight from Nagoya to Hawaii. The Round-The-World mission will resume early April from Hawaii to the USA West Coast.

David Reichmuth , a senior engineer for the Union of Concerned Scientists, said that the findings of the study “saw potential savings everywhere.”

CODA Automotive, a California-based, US-engineered electric car and battery company, is now accepting deposits for its 100% electric, four-door, five-passenger electric sedan. CODA also currently plans to begin selling vehicles in Hawaii in the third quarter of 2011, where the car will be eligible for a $4,500 tax rebate offered in the state.

The 10 hydrogen fuel-cell racks are evenly distributed between Starboard and Port fuel cell rooms, allowing the vessel to continue operation at reduced power if one space must be taken out of service for maintenance.
