BAE Systems has been selected by Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and the Republic of Ireland’s National Transport Authority (NTA) to supply up to 600 electric power and propulsion systems for its new fleet of buses in Ireland. The selection includes an initial order for 100 systems. Series-ER components.

A new study carried out by University College Dublin (UCD) academics has found that under typical Irish commuting conditions, the Toyota Prius IV (fourth-generation) hybrid ( earlier post ) drives in zero emissions mode (ZEV) for significantly more than half (62%) of the time and more than 40% (40.4%) of the distance covered.

Using a mixed fleet of traditional 7.5 tonne and 18 tonne vehicles, the company handles upwards of 300 orders per day and delivers palletized product using a fleet of dedicated vehicles.

Transport for London (TfL) has ordered 20 hydrogen double-decker buses as part of its drive to make London’s transport zero-emission. It follows the introduction of the world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone last month. Wrightbus in Northern Ireland will manufacture them, creating new jobs in the region.

This will create the largest fleet of hybrid buses in Europe, according to TfL. The 600 buses represent a 200% increase in the current hybrid bus fleet which is set to grow by a further 180 vehicles already on order. Hybrid buses typically deliver around a 30% fuel efficiency saving and around 20% reductions in NO x emissions.
