Portland, Oregon will be the initial launch market for Navistar’s new eStar electric truck. Navistar also announced its eStar dealer for the Pacific Northwest market: Cascadia International Trucks of Tacoma, Wash. This Class 2c-3 electric truck has a range of 100 miles per charge, making it ideal for many urban applications.

The electric road ahead for heavy trucks is not exactly clear, and there are several roadblocks, some obvious and some far less so. Fleets don’t want to go electric at scale until they’ve done years-long pilots, but the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation will artificially constrict that timeframe. Soon they won’t have a choice.

Mitsubishi’s North American-spec i-MiEV battery electric vehicle ( earlier post )—available in either an ES base model or upgrade SE trim package —will be available to test drive at US dealerships beginning in November 2011 with the first scheduled customer vehicle deliveries set to commence in early 2012.
