Daimler Buses introduces Citaro hybrid bus; available on diesel and gas models; separate 48V network

The electric motor on the Citaro hybrid assists the combustion engine when high levels of power are required, particularly when moving off. It does not serve to boost maximum power; the output and torque figures for the bus remain unchanged. The electric power generated by recuperation is stored in a bank of supercapacitors.

Sanyo Installs Two Solar Parking Lots for Bikes and Provides 100 Hybrid Bikes in Tokyo

Sanyo Electric has completed installation of two Solar Parking Lots for hybrid bikes, incorporating solar panels and lithium-ion battery systems, and also provided 100 electric hybrid “eneloop bikes”, in Setagaya, Tokyo Japan. Sanyo is using its new Standard Battery System for Power Storage announced in November 2009 in the system.

Researchers demonstrate concept desalination battery

A team from Stanford University and Ruhr-Universität Bochum have demonstrated the novel concept of a “desalination battery” that uses an electrical energy input to extract sodium and chloride ions from seawater and to generate fresh water. The electrodes are then recharged in this solution, releasing ions and creating brine.
