The latest Kenworth T680 Advantage—Kenworth’s fuel-efficiency leader—has gained up to 10% in fuel efficiency compared to a standard Kenworth T680 built in 2013. The 10% gain for the heavy-duty truck equates to a yearly savings of more than $4,600 in fuel per truck for the average long-haul operation.

Capstone Turbine Corporation successfully completed track testing of a Kenworth Class 7 hybrid electric work truck using its 65kW microturbine as an on-board range extender. Improved fuel economy over SAE 15W-40 conventional oils. Tests show comparable fuel economy to SAE 10W-30 in (Class 6) stop-and-go applications and up to 0.7 % fuel economy improvement with long haul trucks (Class 8) when compared to a SAE 15W-40 oil.

The Launch Assist has two different settings, the economy mode and the performance mode. Economy Mode. When the Hydraulic Launch Assist System is operating in Economy Mode, the energy stored in the accumulator during braking is used alone to initially accelerate the vehicle. This process results in increased fuel economy.

The Odyne plug-in hybrid drive system reduces fleet operating and maintenance costs, and depending on duty cycle, enables large trucks to obtain significant fuel economy improvements compared to traditional diesel engines. Although the county automotive fleet includes hybrids, these are the first hybrid trucks they are putting to work.
