Ford has tripled to more than 200 the number of US dealers certified to sell its lineup of plug-in electrified vehicles, including the new C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid that is on sale now and delivers the equivalent of 105 mpg combined in electric mode.
Ford will have one-third of its US dealers in all 50 states—more than 900— certified to sell the Focus Electric battery electric vehicle (BEV) and C-MAX Energi and Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) by spring. Certification isn’t necessary for a Ford dealer to sell C-MAX Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid.
A study by researchers at the Institute of Transportation Studies, UC Davis finds that buyers of plug-in vehicles (PEVs) are substantially less satisfied with the dealer purchase experience than buyers of conventional vehicles—with the notable exception of Tesla buyers. In some cases, dealers outright discouraged PEV purchases.
