I have driven several Chevrolet and GMC vehicles with the wonderful Duramax turbodiesel engine, so expectations were high for a luxury week behind the wheel. Duramax turbodiesel is EPA rated at 20 mpg city/26 highway/22 combined. Because of this we don’t address issues such as long-term reliability or total cost of ownership.

The EPA has rated the Maverick Hybrid’s fuel economy at 42 mpg city/33 highway and 37 combined. mpg with the best fuel economy on an all-city 45-mile run where the average was a stellar 46.7 First Drive: GMC Canyon. A smaller, but not small pickup.

It is like incentivizing automakers to produce ICE vehicles with larger gas tanks instead of a higher MPG rating. I did not include the GMC Hummer EV as the base Hummer EV2 version priced at $79,995 won’t be out until 2024. Add in state and utility incentives and the Lightning could cost $3,000-$6,000 less than the XL version.
