With a new, all-electric Mini E set to arrive in dealerships in a year or less, BMW wants to highlight the idea of a Mini Cooper powered by batteries. That's what led it to display an "old Mini" converted to electric power at a reception before last week's New York auto show.

The battery storage system also includes a voltage converter and power electronics to manage the energy flow between renewable energy sources, the house interface, and the Li-Ion high-voltage battery from the BMW i3. In 2011, batteries which were previously used in the MINI E test fleet were successfully implemented in a stationary project.

I’d like a set to convert my 1997 del Sol to an EV. . The Greenius checking out the J1772 connector plug for the BMW Mini-E with Mini-E driver and EV advocate Stefano Paris. He charges his Mini-E it from the power his rooftop solar system generates.

Regular readers may recognize the name of Tom Moloughney, who has written several stories on his experiences living with a Mini E electric car for two years. customer to take delivery of a BMW ActiveE, the first of a fleet of 700 BMW 1-Series sedans converted. Now Moloughney has moved up in the electric-car world.

The feedback from customers testing the MINI E and the BMW ActiveE will be fed directly into series production of the MCV, which the BMW Group will be launching under a new sub-brand in 2013. Unlike the MINI E, the BMW ActiveE features a distinctive “intermediate position” of the accelerator pedal, allowing the vehicle to “glide”.

MINI E Research Project. Funding provided by the Technology Strategy Board is supporting a 12 month field trial of 40 MINI E models. Converted by Allied Vehicles, a proportion of the vehicles will be equipped to transport wheelchair passengers, thus widening the range of potential users as far as possible.

Andrew owns a converted pure EV Hyundai. I did however find it interesting to find out what the automakers had to promise on the EV front from BMW’s MINI E to Mitsubishi’s iMiEV.
