Results demonstrated that the Ford Transit 350HD equipped with the LightningElectric drivetrain achieved 61 MPGe on EPA City routes and 66 MPGe on EPA Highway routes, compared to 13 and 15 MPG respectively for the identically configured gasoline Ford Transit 350HD.

The updated trucks, which were originally purchased in September 2015, deliver up to four times the fuel economy of a gasoline-powered vehicle, UPS said. The small ICE could be outfitted for gasoline, propane, or CNG. The smaller engine will improve fuel economy, however. AMP Electric Vehicles went public in 2010.

The project will include the purchase and conversion of 283 alternative fuel vehicles for numerous fleets including taxis, cities, schools, and delivery vehicles. The project will replace 180 diesel drayage trucks at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach with LNG trucks. Total DOE award: $12,299,828.
