Before the demo vehicle—a DAF CF 340 front loader with a Millennium XXL 40 body from Terberg HS—could be used to collect commercial waste, a conversion from standard diesel propulsion to hydrogen was required. A 45 kW fuel cell module was installed in the former engine compartment of the vehicle.

The initial pilot will include installing an XL Fleet hybrid system onto a GMC Sierra 2500 HD pickup truck and GMC Savanna Express van, two of Essential’s most widely deployed vehicles in its water and natural gas divisions for applications including Customer Service, Field Service, and Distribution.

Imagine the Siri voice or the Alexa voice; it’s like that, but rather than being an AI that you’re having a conversation with, it moves all the functionality of the computer from the mouse.
