The project is funded as part of the showcase “Electromobility Connects” Bavaria-Saxony by the federal government. BMW has already gathered data from more than 16 million kilometers (10 million miles) of testing with the MINI E (its first EV model) and about 5 million kilometers (3 million miles) with the BMW ActiveE (its second EV model).

BMW selected the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 in Las Vegas as a venue at which to preview future developments and new applications of connected vehicle technology for series-produced vehicles. At CES 2014, BMW is presenting vehicle functions on the electronic wristwatch as part of a research application.

The BMW Concept ActiveE follows the all-electric MINI E as the second large-scale electric vehicle test program to be conducted in the hands of interested customers. The field tests with the MINI E as part of Project i in the US and Europe have already provided insights into the demands required of future production electric vehicles.
