Carnegie study finds climate impact of particulates varies greatly depending on where the pollution originated

Green Car Congress

Estimates indicate that aerosols have offset about a third of greenhouse gas-driven warming since the 1950s. However, aerosols have a much shorter lifespan in the atmosphere than the gases responsible for global warming, resulting in an atmospheric distribution that varies by region, especially in comparison to carbon dioxide.

Ford Europe leading project investigating DME and OME1 as low carbon, near zero particulate fuels; power-to-liquids pathways using CO2

Green Car Congress

The German government is co-funding the three-year project that will test the first cars to run on dimethyl ether (DME) ( earlier post ), commonly used as a non-toxic propellant in aerosol spray gas, and monooxymethylene ether (OME1). Like liquefied petroleum gas, DME must be stored in a slightly pressurized tank.

Why EVs Aren't a Climate Change Panacea

Cars That Think

For instance, Alexandre Milovanoff at the University of Toronto and his colleagues’ research (which is described in depth in a recent Spectrum article ) demonstrates the U.S. Transportation accounts for only 27 percent of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the U.S.; For example, researchers at University of Oxford in the U.K.

Study finds alcohol mix from biomass-derived syngas could be suitable replacement for ethanol in fuel blending

Green Car Congress

The purpose of the study, reported in the ACS journal Energy & Fuels , was to determine whether AlcoMix,the probable outcome of the thermochemical conversion of biomass using Fischer–Tropsch chemistry with synthesis gas, might be a suitable replacement for ethanol in fuel blending as an antiknock blending component for spark-ignited engines.

Volkswagen Group talks EV charging standards, electrification strategy

Green Car Congress

Observing that a 90% reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 would require Volkswagen to reduce CO 2 emissions to twenty grams per vehicle, Krebs remarked “ …this gap can only be closed with electrification. Electrification Strategy. ERL teams also test and validate navigation and connectivity systems.
