Across OECD nations, the Outlook assumes the implied cost of policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will reach about $80 per tonne in 2040. Hybrid vehicles are projected to grow from 1% of new-car sales in 2010 to close to 50% of sales by 2040, making up about one-third of the global fleet at that time.

Natural gas demand grows strongly and overtakes coal as the second largest source of energy. Oil and gas together account for over half of the world’s energy.
