Partners of the P2X Kopernikus project on the premises of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany have demonstrated the production of fuel from air-captured CO2 using—for the first time—a container-based test facility integrating all four chemical process steps needed to implement a continuous process.

Project partners include INERATEC, a spinoff of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), VTT Technical Research Center of Finland and Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT). The mobile chemical pilot plant produces gasoline, diesel, and kerosene from regenerative hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

Switzerland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain will offer LPG-versions in addition to the regular gasoline and diesel range. The driver can switch from gasoline to LPG or vice versa (bivalent propulsion) with the push of a button, increasing the range to 1,100 km.

They convert Toyota Prius hybrids into mostly electric vehicles that get 100 to 150 miles per gallon. Going faster than that triggers the car’s gasoline-powered engine, transforming the vehicle back into a traditional hybrid.

Gasoline is burnt up and gone forever into the atmosphere and into our lungs. April 10, 2009 10:06 pm Link I make, convert and drive EV’s and have for 13 yrs. Even if you charge your EV with electricity made from coal fired generators you reduce your car’s pollution by half. If you charge with solar, is way less.
